Good response of ‘ Shiv Bhojan’ scheme, demand more in Navi Mumbai city
Maharashtra State government on January 26, launched its much-awaited ‘ Shiv Bhojan’ scheme, which is aimed at providing a meal to the poor for just Rs 10, on the occasion of the 71st Republic Day. This Yojna also started at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) First Referral Unit (FRU) Hospital at Sector 10A, Vashi.
The Yojna was inaugurated by the NMMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Tushar Pawar in the presence of the Rationing officer B P Muluk and other officers and Staff. Scores of people queued up at many such centres at various places. While some people praised the scheme and quality of food, some others demanded that the existing two-hour time be extended.
Under the scheme, in the Hospital Vashi which was launched on a pilot basis, thalis or lunch plates would be available to the people at Hospital canteen on the 2nd floor.
The ‘thali’ consists of two chapatis, one vegetable, rice and dal.  According to officials, the thalis would be available for people between 12 noon and 2 pm. adding that canteen is going to serve at least 75 thalis (plates) per day.
Rationing officer B P Muluk said “it’s very good such service started in Hospital, the poor hospital patient and relatives come here in the hospital, hence it’s benefited for the patient relatives, State Government Under the pilot scheme, at least one ‘Shiv Bhojan’ canteen has been started at district headquarters.
DMC Tushar Pawar said “The goal of the scheme is to provide affordable and quality food to all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and financial status,’
Customer will have to pay just Rs 10 per thali, the actual cost of the food will be Rs 50 each in urban centres and Rs 35 in rural areas. The balance amount will be given as grant to the district collectorate, according to officials.
Amit Patil canteen owner said “it’s very good scheme and greeting good response from the visitors who come here for lunch ,”   
Deepak Yadav patient relatives who eat Shiv Bhojan Thali said “ A very good food quality provided within Rs 10, I daily prefer to eat lunch here till the time my patient not discharge,”
Bharat Patil patient relatives from Turbhe said “the hospital is so crowded, and the numbers of patient relatives are coming here, hence the plats will be increased more than 75, which more and more poor peoples should be take benefits of this state government scheme.”
