Taloja industrial visit TIA team, Navi Mumbai

Due to non-performance of CETP, MPCB stopped giving consents to Industries for expansion or change or products. Since then, situation remains grim and this continues till date. Subsequent to February 4 site visit to Taloja CETP, done by TIA team, Industry members, MIDC officials & KDC Aqua, there was sign of relief that now Industries can approach MPCB for further expansion and change of products, for which TIA will support them and put the matter to MPCB and MIDC.
This will ensure that necessary permissions are granted by them, as presently CETP capacity is 22.5mld, in which 18mld is received from Industries. So, 4.5mld spare capacity is available immediately. By June 2020, additional 5mld capacity will be functional, which will further allow Industries to expand their business.
Background-There after 987+ Industries operating out of Taloja MIDC. During August 2008, river regulation zone (RRZ) was implemented by state Environment department, which was a hurdle to the Industries in Taloja MIDC, who were within 750meters of the river bank. This was because Industries were not allowed to expand their production or change their respective products. After great follow-up by the Association, Industries were given relief, as RRZ got denotified in the year September 2014, by state Environment department.
Visit made all observe below- Ø The accumulated sludge, discharged to solid waste management, was about 4500 metric tons. Ø There was no smell in and around Taloja CETP. Ø Phase I of 12.5 MLD capacity and Phase II of 10 MLD capacity were operational. Ø Treated effluent discharge results were within desired MPCB norms (below 250mg/l COD and 100mg/l BOD). Ø It is the most advanced CETP in the country, with state of the art equipment’s & instruments
In light of above, Industries can start approaching MPCB for expansion of their projects. As per data available with TIA, since the past few years, approximately Rs. 9000 crore expansion projects, which were awaiting clearance, should be approved. We propose that after upgradation of Taloja CETP is accomplished, it would be an ideal project for chemical students and other Industrial estates to visit TCETP, to gain knowledge and it can been visited as an ideal chemical effluent treatment pilot plant. This will be an additional feather in the cap, which will add to the existing amenities available at Taloja MIDC, like road, water and electricity supply etc.
Please note that the outlet discharge of Taloja CETP is 7.5 km away from Kasardi River and is being discharged at Wagavli creek, between Kharghar and Belapur, by HDPE pipeline, and not at Kasardi River. In addition, Rs. 15 crore, has been collected as fine from Industries, towards environment restoration charges, that can be used by the Collector, Raigad, for Kasardi river restoration project.
During the visit were Satish Shetty (Anna)- President TIA , Bineet Salian- Treasurer S.S. Shetty-Hon Committee member Rakesh D’Souza- Committee member Laxman Patil-GM, KDC Aqua Eminent Srinath Shetty- Committee member N.M. Wankhede-Superintending Engineer-MIDC R.P.Patil-Executive Engineer-MIDC Deepak Bobade Patil-Deputy Engineer-MIDC Madhukar Naik-Partner-KDC Aqua, KD Patil-Partner-KDC Aqua, were present.
